The Couch to 5K is one of the latest trends in running. Since I work at a running shoe store, I get the chance to talk with a LOT of runners, especially new ones who are coming in for the first time to be fitted for a pair of running shoes. Recently, I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of people using the Couch to 5K program.
The program works with non-runners by intervals of walking and running, gradually increasing your distance and time so that you graduate from a couch potato to a sleek, running machine in just a few months! Okay, maybe not a sleek, running machine, but sleeker than where you were before!
Also very cool (I think) is the the iPhone/iTouch C25K app you can download that allows you to listen to your own music, interrupting you with audio cues for when to run and when to walk. It’s all based on the program. All you have to do is get up and get outside or on a treadmill.
If you’ve been interested in Team OneVerse, but hesitant to get involved because you aren’t a runner, forget it! A runner is anyone who runs; doesn’t matter how long! Starting this program is a great way to become or maintain health, get into running again or for the first time, and of course, find a 5K to run while raising money for Bible translation.
If you’ve done the Couch to 5K or are doing it now, how’s it been going for you?
