Recipes for Runners: Homemade Protein Bars

Someone at the gym in a boot camp class passed this recipe on to my mother, who passed it on to me. It’s great and easy and hey, homemade protein bars that you can even throw in the freezer until you’re ready to eat them!

  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup peanut butter (best with natural peanut butter)
  • 3-4 Tbsp milled flaxseeds
  • 3 scoops chocolate protein powder (or vanilla)
  • Additional mix-ins like chocolate chips, dried fruit, oats, granola, nuts, etc.

In a pot, heat honey over medium heat until runny. Add peanut butter and mix until smooth. Remove from heat. Add in milled flaxseed and protein powder and mix well. Add in additional mix-ins (chocolate chips, dried fruit, oats, granola, nuts, etc). After well mixed, spread into an 8×8 pan and refrigerate for at least an hour before cutting into bars.
