Twelve-year-old Kaylee sat in front of her computer screen, holding her breath. In just a few seconds, she’d find out if she’d won her eBay bid for a Gameboy DS with her birthday money. The Gameboy soon became Kaylee’s favorite possession.
Kaylee’s parents have always taught her to love God. Her father prays with her every night. At first, Kaylee would pray exactly the same way each night. But finally, one night her dad asked her, “Kaylee, do you know God or do you just know of God?” Without waiting for an answer, he kissed her good night and left the room.
Two days later, Kaylee told her dad, “You said I prayed and asked Jesus into my heart when I was three, but I don’t remember it.” So her father prayed with her.
Later that week, the family heard a sermon about the importance of sharing God’s Word with others. The next morning, Kaylee came down the stairs carrying her Gameboy DS and five games. She told her surprised parents, “I want you to sell this on eBay.”
“Why?” her dad asked.
“God’s Word is important to us. It’s also important to give His Word to someone else. Dad, I’ve been hearing you talk about OneVerse. So I’d like to sell these and use the money to sponsor verses so others can have the Bible too.”
With a little help from her family, Kaylee was able to purchase one verse each month for the entire year!
And throughout that year, her faith continued to grow. The first verses she sponsored were difficult ones about Jesus and when he challenged evil-minded Pharisees. Other verses told about the time when Jesus let His enemies carry Him away to be nailed to the cross.
As Kaylee thought about these verses, she understood them in a new way. She now sees how ugly sin is—and how much it cost Jesus! Kaylee set out to help the Rutara people of South Asia get God’s Word for the first time. But she didn’t know that through OneVerse she’d also grow in her own relationship with God.
We would like to invite you to prayerfully consider becoming a monthly partner to help the Rutara have the Bible in their own language. Simply visit oneverse.org to begin supporting this life-changing ministry today.
