These amazing apps come courtesy of recommendations from Women’s Running Magazine‘s July issue in an article called “Hold the Phone.” Author Jayme Moye Otto offered up some wonderful options for runners. The apps she found, the explanations come from the products’ websites.
Get Running– “…a personal trainer with a human voice for your iPhone™ or iPod Touch™. Even if you’ve never run before, Get Running will gently introduce you to running with a nine-week fitness plan. iMapMyRun – “…a fitness tracking application that enables you to use the built-in GPS of your mobile device to track all of your fitness activities. Record your workout details, including duration, distance, pace, speed, elevation, calories burned, and route traveled on an interactive map. You can even effortlessly save and upload your workout data to any of the MapMyFITNESS websites where you can view your route workout data, and comprehensive workout history.”
Nike + GPS – You can use the Nike + technology whether you have Nike shoes or not. From the SportBand to iPhone connections or the Nike+ SportWatch with GPS powered by TomTom, Nike + has a level of pacing and tracking for you. There are lots of exciting bells and whistles with the GPS unit and it’s been well received so far.

Upbeat Workouts for Runners – “Get the motivation and the fun by matching the beat of your music to your steps, automatically.” The app “automatically matches your pace to the beats of your iTunes songs…If you run/walk faster the app selects a song to match. If you slow down, the app automatically finds music with a slower tempo.”
