Congrats to Crossbridge Church’s Running Group!

Over the weekend, Crossbridge Church ran the Mercedes Half and Full Marathon and 5k. Various church members ran the lengths, some even teaming up to run a marathon relay! The group of 9 runners raised over $4300 — over 168 verses translated for the Rutara! Their official race report is after the picture. Be sure to read what is truly a testament of God’s provision in the midst of tragedy.
Here’s the official report from team captain and T1V alumnus Alice Parker:

“Jordan Reese ran the 5k on Saturday and finished 251st out of 1,224 runners! There were snow flurries at the start of the race and a wind speed of 22 mph. He did AWESOME!

By Sunday the wind had calmed down, but the temperature was holding at about 26 degrees. April Lawrence ran the half marathon in 2 hours and 2 minutes which is her best time for the 13.1 mile race! Paul and Julie Kelly completed the half marathon together in 3 hours and 50 minutes, and the marathon relay team made up of Mimi Green, Cara Wortmann, Becky Bueche, Rachel Wagner, and Alice Parker finished the 26.2 miles in 5 hours and 3 minutes.

Our jerseys have Hebrews 12:1-2 on the back of them. Those verses say, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Our team battled doubt and sicknesses leading up to the race as well as the wicked weather during the race; but, like the verse says, “we fixed our eyes on Jesus” and we persevered! Our focus that day was not on ourselves, but of the Rutara people who NEEDED us to run the race. We are so blessed to be a part of such a team that supports Bible translation!

I can hardly believe it (except that I know God has His plan) because right after we made a church-wide announcement about the fundraising, tornadoes swept through our area, again, devastating areas close to us and affecting families in our congregation. We ceased to mention Team OneVerse in the services since the church was so generous to us the Sunday we announced it. We needed to focus on helping and providing for our church family. Our preacher still sent the message out in his weekly email announcements and the church prayed for us the Sunday prior to the race. We were not forgotten. God had it under control. …our prayers were answered in every sense of the word: health, safety, perseverance, focus, financial goal. I am feeling very convicted about not trusting God to take care of His mission…because it is truly evident to us that God made what we saw as impossible…possible!

This team has been such a blessing in my life especially in the area of my running.”

Thanks so much to Crossbridge Church for their time, partnership, and commitment to Bible translation!
